Description
The Central Coast History Foundation’s first project is a book that will explore these pioneers and their achievements. The working title is “The Achievers”, subtitled “A Century of Central Coast Innovation”. As pioneers in the emerging forms of mechanical, aeronautical and electrical engineering, these ground breaking problem-solvers initiated many products now in common use. These men and women were often not theoreticians or laboratory scientists, but hands-on, learn-by- doing types who designed, built and tested their own creations. Some of these accounts are tales of adventure and derring-do as well as applied engineering. Please visit our Stories and Historical Events page off to the right to see some of the events that will be outlined in the publication.

The Foundation is interested in hearing from area residents on other possible topics for this book and for future projects. If you have any leads, please contact us by mail, phone or email at the address below.

The text will be fully researched and documented by recognized authorities in each discipline. Graphic elements will combine design sketches, engineering drawings, blueprints and period photography. In many cases, contemporary photos will illustrate the current status of projects begun decades ago. The book will also include a complete bibliography, index and recommended references. Derivative works will include a website and possible in- school or library storyboards.

Managing Editor: Tod Rafferty is a veteran journalist who has written seven books on motorcycling.
